Brighton Blast

The past two days have been dry and sunny so I decided to take advantage of ever shrinking evening light at this time of year and have a quick blast through some local Brighton singletrack. The trails were dry and dusty which made pedalling easy and the trails a blast. I didn't even have to clean the bike when I got back, just put the TV on and open a can of beer.

From the 'Jack & Jill' windmills on the A273 just north of Brighton head east up the gravelly track past the windmills and then down onto the South Downs Way and through the riding school at New Barn Farm. Stay on the SDW through the golf course to the A273, cross the road and turn immediate right into a trail signposted as 'permissive bridleway' to where to joins the road just below Rockrose riding school. Go up-hill past the riding school and straight up to the top of Wolstonbury Hill. Now the fun starts as this is the highest point of the ride and all directions are down! Go straight over the hill and down the otherside, the trail was dusty with plenty of lose rocks skipping about making steering a nervous experience. Keep on downhill past the steps and follow the trail as it turns right to cut across the hillside. There are lots of trails here, explore! Follow the signposted bridleway around Wolstonbury Hill and back up to the bridleway junction just above Rockrose riding school, take the bridleway south towards the village of Haresdean. Really hammer this as fast as you can pedal but take care with the last sharpe left turn and the post in the middle of the trail! From here follow the SDW back across the A273, through the golf course and back to the windmills.
